Broadway’s Enron has found its Kenneth Lay. Gregory Itzin will play the CEO of the corporation that has become synonymous with financial scandal in Lucy Prebble’s play, directed by Rupert Goold. The actor joins stars Norbert Leo Butz and Stephen Kunken in the production, which will begin performances on April 8 at the Broadhurst Theatre and open on April 27, 2010.
Itzin is probably best known for his Emmy-nominated performance as President George Logan on the hit series 24 and a 1994 Tony nomination for Best Featured Actor in a Play for The Kentucky Cycle. In addition to The Kentucky Cycle, Itzin’s theater credits include Psychopathia Sexualis, Romeo & Juliet, Beyond Therapy, Cyrano De Bergerac, Shipwrecked, Bang Bang Blues, Philadelphia, Here I Come!, Translations and Much Ado About Nothing. He received Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle awards for his performances in Waiting for Godot, The Homecoming and The Birthday Party. His many television credits include The Mentalist, LA Law, Picket Fences, The Practice, Boston Legal and Star Trek. His film credits include Airplane, The Fabulous Baker Boys, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Original Sin and Law Abiding Citizen.
Inspired by real-life events and using music, dance and video, Enron explores one of the most infamous scandals in financial history. The cast of the play, which was recently nominated for a 2010 Olivier Award for Best Play, also includes Noah Weisberg, Rightor Doyle, Ian Kahn, January LaVoy, Mary Stewart Sullivan and Madisyn Shipman.
